Magic school Current design Chronos

Chronos

Chronos manipulates time in bounded, local ways — retracing movement, bending projectile time and leaving temporal echoes. Its masters are called Chronomancers.

Overview

Chronos is the school of time manipulation: temporal displacement, temporal echoes and altered projectile time. A master of Chronos is a Chronomancer.

Chronos effects are bounded and local. They bend time for particular targets, paths and projectiles rather than slowing the whole world.

Known concepts

  • Retracing movement along a lagged path.
  • Slowing and manipulating projectiles.
  • Pinning time shadows.
  • Temporal fractures, which can harm the attacker.

In the design

  • Defining rule. Chronos can manipulate sequence, duration, temporal rate and recent temporal history, but it cannot freely undo consequences.
  • World property. Time, Sequence and Temporal History.
  • Exceptional at. Temporal control / sequence manipulation / projectile timing.
  • Deliberate weakness. Cannot undo consequences (no resurrection, damage reversal or HP restoration); borrowed speed creates Temporal Debt; effects obey current world physics and carry readable tells.
  • Mastery. Ascended Chronos: fractures their own existence across simultaneous temporal possibilities (Temporal Schism).
