Choosing a target
A creature weighs the targets it can actually perceive, using only what it knows: who is closest, who has hurt it, who is inside the area it is defending, who it has seen supporting others, and who it is already fighting. How many targets it can keep track of depends on its mind and training.
It does not flip between targets at random — switching needs a clear reason, and time on its current target.
Objectives
- Drive off intruders — the default.
- Defend a location — guards hold their post and return to it rather than being drawn away.
Sapient fighters in a warband prioritise supporting and protecting their allies.
