Fear

Fear in EOSTRA comes from what a creature perceives — a hit, a wound, an ally dying, being outnumbered — never from a level gap.

What causes Fear

Fear rises only from perceived events:

  • being hit — or hit by something unseen;
  • being wounded;
  • a heavy or severe stagger;
  • seeing or hearing an ally die;
  • being outnumbered by threats it can perceive;
  • an innate fear — animals fear fire;
  • unfamiliar Mythic danger.

A creature’s own condition only amplifies these events. Being low on health alone does not cause Fear.

What does not cause Fear

Level difference. No creature runs away simply because you outlevel it.

Being afraid

A frightened creature becomes wary (it hesitates) and then afraid: depending on what it is, it flees, panics, or hides in its shell. A cornered creature with no escape may fight back. Fear changes behaviour, never statistics.

Once calm again, a creature that fled out of fear may come back for a target it can still see; otherwise it withdraws.

Who is immune

The undead feel no fear. Elite creatures and bosses are not immune.
